There are numerous sentient beings living in the woods as well as the tree itself that would hear or perceive it in some way. There are environmentalists who claim that trees “scream” when they are cut down and can communicate through their intertwined root systems. There are also people who believe that the Earth itself has consciousness. The more layers we pull back the more entangled and mysterious existence becomes.
